Tuesday, July 26, beginning at 6:00 PM
(meeting location confirmed prior to tour)
Explore the magnificent St. Michael’s Episcopal Church complex,* both outside and inside its extraordinary sanctuary, including Tiffany windows and decoration. Learn about the Church and its neighborhood context- comprised largely of blocks of rowhouses that were mainly constructed between 1886-1889 combining Gothic, Queen Anne and Romanesque features.
This evening tour will be led by Andrew S. Dolkart, professor of Historic Preservation at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
*St. Michael’s Episcopal Church complex, a Romanesque Revival ensemble by R.W. Gibson including three buildings, (the 1890 Church, 1896-97 Parish House, and 1912-13 Rectory) ha s long been on the LW! radar. First heard for landmark designation 36 years ago, it was finally granted full protection as an official NYC Individual Landmark on April 12, 2016! Click HERE to learn more about the complex and our advocacy efforts to protect it.
