Remarks: Hostetler often explored the theme of a “duo” or two figures in his sculptural practice, and this version was originally conceived as a maquette of a “fused couple,” during the time the artist was considering marrying his wife Susan Crehan-Hostetler. The architect Philip Johnson, along with Donald Trump and Lizanne Galbreath, chose this version for the Dale F. Frey Plaza at the Trump International Hotel and Tower in New York. The sculpture was commissioned to honor the late Ohio real estate developer and philanthropist Dan Galbreath, who was one of the partner’s of the Trump International Hotel and Tower and also a collector of Hotetler’s work.
