Remarks: Composed of 180 thin, polished steel sculptures resembling abstracted flowers linked together in rows and suspended from the ceiling, this work has a kinetic component and sways in the breeze and air currents that circulate through the subway station. The title is a Dutch word meaning “vale of flowers,” which was also the original name given by Dutch settlers to the neighborhood around 96th street and Broadway.
