The Secret on W. 78th Street: Guastavino Row Walking Tour

August 22, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join LW! and architectural historian Tom Miller (of “Daytonian in Manhattan” blog fame) for walk along a very special Upper West Side block – 78th Street between the Museum of Natural History and Amsterdam Avenue. It’s known as “Guastavino Row” in honor of Rafael Guastavino, the 19th-century architect who gave New York City the iconic vaulted tile arches found in the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Terminal, Carnegie Hall and  the City Hall subway station. Before he became known for his tiles and vaulting, though, Guastavino built whimsical, charming homes—including several very notable buildings on W. 78th Street.  In fact, some of his earliest arched ceilings can be found hidden on this very block.  You won’t want to miss one of our favorite experts leading the way on this magical Guastavino block!
