The Secret Designer of Central Park Walk with Beth Goffe
August 27, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm
Tuesday, August 27th 6:30-7:45pm
Did you know there is another, oft-overlooked architect who worked closely with Olmsted and Vaux and was responsible for many of our favorite Central Park designs? British-born Jacob Wrey Mould’s distinctive decorative fingerprints can be found on Bethesda Arcade, Belvedere Castle, the Ladies Pavilion, the Victorian Gothic Central Park Stables, various arches and bridges, and the gorgeous, whimsical relief carvings of Bethesda Terrace. Described as “brilliant, accomplished, ingenious, erratic”, Mould’s work throughout the park is always striking. This walk takes us from Tavern on the Green to Mineral Springs, up the Mall to the concert ground, and down to the arcade and Bethesda Terrace in the heart of Central Park. Come explore with LW!
