The Upper West Side’s many architectural gems include a layer of history that many of us overlook – their intriguing signage and hidden inscriptions. Even the most ordinary buildings may contain signs and lettering that reveal fascinating details and link us to our city’s vibrant past. Alexander Tochilovsky, an educator and curator at The Cooper Union, takes us on a unique journey through the neighborhood, showing us hidden traces of long-ago signs, lettering, and fonts that connect us to both another artistic layer of the Upper West Side and the shops and lives of earlier Westsiders making their own marks on our beautiful neighborhood.
