Look Up! The UWS’s Faces in Stone
September 10, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
LW! is on a quest to find the hidden-in-plain-sight faces, figures, gargoyles and grotesques that embellish so many of our historic buildings. And we’ve found just the man to lead this adventure — architect and photographer Robert Arthur King, who is the eye and the lens behind the books Faces in Stone; Animals in Stone; and Figures in Stone. King’s photos are themselves acts of preservation, capturing all the glorious details of the fantastical beings carved out of stone or molded in terra-cotta that enliven the facades of New York’s – and other historic city’s – buildings. So many of these pieces sit high atop their buildings; this is your chance to view them up-close and learn just where to find these incredible works.
