A crowd of more than 70 property owners, architects, engineers, and other lovers of landmarks gathered at the downtown offices of Arup (thank you to our fantastic hosts!) to learn from two of the best about brownstone preservation. Architectural conservator Mike Devonshire and master craftsman Jack Pontes focused on façades (view their presentations here) for over two hours, answering questions about why bad things happen to good brownstone–and what owners and contractors can do to better preserve these distinctive NYC buildings. Stay tuned for the next in the series, “Good Bones” (exploring the structural engineering of brownstones), in early June!
